Fans of modified cars, electric vehicle enthusiasts and those shopping for
new cars can look forward to the International Modified (IAM) Kuala
Lumpur and Malaysia International Motor Expo (MIME) 2023 which will be
held from 27-29 October 2023 at the Malaysia International Trade &
Exhibition Centre (MITEC) in Kuala Lumpur.
Endorsed by the Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii),
the show promises a curated showcase of vehicles, products, innovations,
and latest development in automotive technology by automotive stake
holders, car/motorcycle dealers, and original equipment manufacturers
(OEM).
What makes IAM-MIME 2023 unique is that it incorporates three
automotive genres under one roof: Firstly, it is a showcase of new cars
legacy automakers and new marques. The second element is a showcase
dedicated to an Electric Vehicle (EV) Fest which will showcase a variety of
EVs that provide mobility with an approximate 400km of range on a single
charge but with a price range ranging from RM100,000 to RM500,000.
Among the vehicles on display will include Mercedes-Benz’s EQQ 350
sports utility vehicle (SUV) and a wide range of models from Mazda, KIA
and Peugeot brought by Bermaz Auto Berhad. Also on display will be a
modified Tesla brought by Exotic Mods Sdn Bhd an independent Tesla and
European sales, spare parts, service and repair centre. The show will also
include displays by JPM Museo, one of the largest private collectors of
hypercars and iconic cars in Malaysia, and Utama Motors renowned for its
supercar collection.
“Beyond the promotion of the automotive industry, MARii’s agenda is very
much aligned with Malaysia’s responsibility regarding energy transition and
decarbonisation. On this note, I’m very happy to note that the organizers of
the Malaysia International Motor Expo (MIME 2023) have focused on the
Electric Vehicle (EV) mega trend and allocated a central location for the
display of some of the leading EV brands in the world,”said Malaysia
Automotive Robotics And Iot Institute (MARii) Deputy Chief Executive
Officer Ts Nizmar Mohd Nazar who launched the show today. Also present
was Chairman of the Malaysia International Motor Expo (MIME) Yang Mulia
Sharifah Wani Jamalullail.
Meanwhile, MIME Founder Yamin Vong said one major attraction of the
show will be to provide as many visitors and potential buyers the
experience of test driving electric vehicles. The show will also be
conducting a digital polling for the “Peoples’ Choice Car of the Year” and
participants of this 10 question poll will also stand to win hourly prizes. The
“Peoples’ Choice Car of the Year” will be announced at a special Car of the
Year Awards to be held on 15 November 2023.
The third and most vibrant component of the show will be a grand
showcase of about 300 customized cars that will form the epicenter of the
International Automodified (IAM) display which has grown exponentially to
become Southeast Asia’s largest and longest running modified car show.
Regarded as Southeast Asia’s largest car tuning and lifestyle show as well
as competition, IAM has had the distinction of touring more than 38 cities
throughout Indonesia since 2001 and has since expanded to hosting shows
in Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand. The show attracts thousands of car
enthusiasts and aficionados with nearly 100 individual awards presented to
the best displayed vehicles in each category.
First held in Malaysia in 2011, IAM combined forces with MIME in 2022
where close to 104,000 people visited the inaugural three-day show held at
the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. Last year’s showcase featured more
than 100 of Malaysia’s top grade modified vehicles with the numbers
expected to triple this year.
“The show has grown by leaps and bounds over the years. There is a huge
following and love for modified cars in the region especially in Malaysia and
this is extremely evident from the high quality of cars on display,” said IAM
Founder Reza Aliwarga.
“The interest to display cars has been phenomenal and there are almost
1,000 modified cars on the list we have to vet through before meticulously
selecting the final 300 for the show.”
This year’s regional IAM tour kicks off in Singapore from 21-22 October
before stopping in Kuala Lumpur,Malaysia on 27-29 October. The show will
then travel back to Jakarta, Indonesia on 2-3 December before the finale
being held in Bangkok, Thailand on 9-10 December. The show is also
working towards making its debut in the United States in Summer 2024.
International Modified (IAM) Kuala Lumpur and Malaysia International
Motor Expo (MIME) 2023 will also feature a wide variety of attractions
which includes racing simulators, an RC (remote controlled) exhibit,
gatherings by numerous car clubs, a display of royal exotic cars, a live
music festival and lots of prizes and giveaways for the public.
