Launching of Algae Biotechnology Consortium (ABC)
29th April 2022
Professor Ir Ts Dr Show Pau-Loke and ChM. Dr.Khoo Kuan Shiong initiated an algae biotechnology research initiative in January 2022 by outreaching all algae researchers around Asian to partivipate and exchange of algae strains to preserve and prevent these authentic algae strains to be extinct. Toward this direction of algae research initiative, the establishment of the Algae Biotechnology Consortium (ABC) was proposed to gather local/international institutions and industrial partners around the world to share the mutual benefits of these four major elements including:
- Algae Cultivation
- Algae Biotechnology
- Algae Storage and Identification using Artificial Intelligence
- Commercialization of Algae-based Products in Asian

Significant impact of Algae Biotechnology Consortium (ABC):
ABC aims to embrace algae biomass as an essential solution toward a sustainable planet over exhausted fossil fuel products. This would create an initiative toward a greener future through research-based education, public outreach and engagement as well as to promote the renewable energy of algae biomass to transform human society and the environment upon which it depends.
ABC also facilitate a future in which algae are the fundamental source of future food, energy,
nutrition, bioproducts, cosmatic, and ecological services for sustainable practices among societies
globally. Towards this algae research initiative, ABC is confident in creating an impact among
Malaysian and International communities in finding sustainable solutions for a greener future.
