Renowned HK Actress Michelle Yim Headlines Sleep Health Showcase Amidst Surge of Insomnia in Malaysia

Contributed by Kenny Phang.

In collaboration with Defy Media.

Kuala Lumpur, 27 August 2023 – AmLife International Sdn. Bhd today staged its sleep health showcase themed “Sleep Your Way To A Younger and Healthier You!” to address increasing sleep issues and their connection to ageing and diseases at the One World Hotel.

Many Malaysians suffer from various sleep disorders, most commonly insomnia which is escalating in the country. Media reports indicated that 9 out of 10 Malaysians has sleep disorders. The average Malaysian sleeps only 6 hours or less (experts recommend 7 to 9 hours of sleep per night) and 4 out of 10 take more than 30 minutes to sleep. 6 out of 10 Malaysians claimed that they have an unhealthy lifestyle and spending too much time on the phones which caused them difficulty to fall asleep or stay asleep.

According to Mr. Lew Mun Yee, Founder & President of AmLife, sleep education is becoming increasingly important as sleep disorders trigger various chronic conditions which include Type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, obesity, depression and immunity-related illnesses.  As Malaysians lead busier lives, do not eat right and wisely and become more sedentary, these factors would exacerbate many modern-lifestyle diseases.

“Over time, lack of good sleep can lead to many health issues, impacts one’s immune system and overall functions and also accelerates aging,” said Lew. A research team in University of California, Los Angeles found that one night of partial sleep deprivation activated genes related to biological aging in older adults .The findings suggested that insufficient sleep may increase the risk of chronic disease by “activating the molecular pathways that drive biological aging”.

In a bid to step up sleep health education to the masses, AmLife has enlisted Hong Kong popular veteran actress Michelle Yim to aid in this community initiative.  Michelle, which has a sterling TV career that spans close to 50 years, epitomises consistent and natural youthfulness, beauty and health.

Besides offering her sleep and anti-aging insights, Michelle shared her experience using AmLife sleep technology – the AmLife DeepZleep AmSonic – an unique regenerative sleep technology from Japan which combines Electric Potential Therapy, AmSonic Frequency Therapy and Thermal Therapy – making it the world’s first regenerative sleep for all-rounded physical and spiritual wellbeing which let you recharge your health while you are sleeping.

Michelle will also star in AmLife’s community video which advocates sleep health and anti-aging and will be ready for public viewing come September.

Michelle said, “It is important to pay attention to maintaining good health.  Eat well, do not go to bed late and exercise. In this busy society, everyone is subject to tremendous pressure. So, it is key to cultivate good habits to keep healthy from young. Do not delay keeping healthy or when you are older…lest you may have a lot of problems by then.

On working with AmLife, I am to be aligned with the company’s concept of health preservation through sleep health! It is great to share on sleep health as many neglect to practise good sleeping habits. Seek sleep solutions if you have a sleep issue. Since I used AmLife’s DeepZleep – AmSonic for just one week, everyone said that I am in a very good state of mind. I sleep well every night and feel recharged and refreshed. I also feel that my skin condition and complexion have improved, quipped Michelle.

At the event, Dr. Choo Hao Jian, a doctor specialising in geriatrics and regenerative medicine was on hand to share his insights on sleep and aging, with tips and solutions to keep young and healthy naturally, well into one’s golden age.

AmLife has been educating and helping people achieve better sleep and health through its electric potential therapy technology from Japan for the past 20 years. “While we have always been providing sleep health technology while you sleep, today we are excited to enable Malaysians to keep healthy while they sit or relax wherever they might be in our latest endeavour!, said Lew.

The all-new DZ Lite launched today is light, portable, easy and convenient to use in a sitting mode, wherever you are. The innovative product purifies the blood through electric potential therapy, unblocks meridian points and opens up veins to promote blood circulation to enhance one’s health. We are also working with various professional and retail outlets in Malaysia on a “crossover concept” – ranging from cafés, gyms, hair and beauty salons to offices where one can just recline on the DZ Lite and let it rejuvenate one’s body – which aims to  address health hazards that stem from sedentary lifestyles.

Moving forward, we will continue to enable more Malaysians to enjoy sleep solutions in a more accessible and convenient manner, while striving towards our main goal of advocating younger, healthier and vibrant lives,“ enthused Mr Lew.

S’porean StorHub Group acquires majority stake in M’sian startup Flexi Storage

From Left to Right - Desmond How, Chief Executive Officer of StorHub Self Storage Malaysia, David Chin, Group Chief Investment Officer of StorHub Group, Mike Hagbeck, Group Chief Executive Officer of StorHub Group, Alex Lee, Chief Operating Officer of StorHub Self Storage Malaysia

Kuala Lumpur, 24th August 2023 - Singapore’s largest and longest established self storage operator StorHub Group, with footprints across 15 cities, has acquired a majority stake in Malaysian self storage leader, Flexi Storage. This also marks the rebranding of all Flexi Storage facilities to StorHub Self Storage Malaysia.

Established in 2015, by two Malaysian entrepreneurs, Desmond How and Alex Lee, Flexi Storage has been serving the Malaysian community in 24/7 self storage facilities across Kuala Lumpur, Petaling Jaya, and Seri Kembangan.

“As a self-funded company that has managed to build from the ground up, this acquisition indeed is a huge milestone in our career path as Malaysian entrepreneurs. Since Flexi Storage started operations in 2015, we have served more than 1,600 customers by providing secure and flexible storage for personal and business usage.

“We are happy to be a part of StorHub Group, alongside Singapore’s most established self storage operator. In Malaysia, we have observed close to 90% occupancy rate across our facilities, which drives our growth trajectory to expand further in Malaysia. Pandemic hobbies such as cooking and cycling also brought a wave of new customers who then decluttered to make way for a new interest,” said Desmond How, Chief Executive Officer of StorHub Self Storage Malaysia.

StorHub Group operates 18 facilities in Singapore and has established presence in 15 cities including Australia, Mainland China, Hong Kong SAR, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, and now, Malaysia. The Group currently operates facilities spanning over 5.1 million sq. ft. of gross floor area (GFA) and more than 70,000 self storage units. StorHub is confident that our expansion into Malaysia will reap the benefits of the joint venture.

Mike Hagbeck, Group Chief Executive Officer of StorHub Group said, “With 20 years of experience being the longest operator in Singapore and Asia Pacific, we are steadfast with our aim to become a dominant Pan-Asian self storage player by capturing the rapid growth of the self storage industry across the key markets in Asia Pacific. We aim to bring along a wealth of experience in building safe and secure self storage facilities and to strongly understand the needs of our self storage customers in Malaysia”.

During the pandemic, the self storage industry saw brisk business as the lockdown curtailed movement and increased remote working across many industries. Personal space became a luxury, and many looked towards self storage to store personal items or inventory.

Post-pandemic, the self storage industry is set for robust growth, with increasing acceptance of self storage as an option, urbanisation, and lifestyle changes and attitudes toward living spaces driving this segment.

David Chin, Group Chief Investment Officer of StorHub Group shared his insights about the industry, “Malaysia has been identified as a key growth market as StorHub Group sees rapid urbanisation changing the way consumers and businesses perceive living space or real estate. Overall, the country has tripled its urbanisation rate over five decades from 28.4% in 1970 to 75.1% in 2020. Selangor leads with the largest urban population of 6.7 million. We plan to acquire properties across Klang Valley, Penang, and Johor as part of our expansion seeing that it is a key growth market in the region.”

Alex Lee, Chief Operating Officer of StorHub Self Storage Malaysia said, “This leads us to locate our newest facility on the border of Kuala Lumpur and Selangor. The acquisition of the strata property in Old Klang Road marks StorHub Self Storage’s fourth convenient location in Malaysia.

“The centralised and dense location in Old Klang Road is easily accessible and will surely benefit neighbouring communities in Taman OUG, Taman Kinrara, Taman Damai Utama, Bandar Baru Sri Petaling, Mid Valley City as well as those beyond the vicinity as they will be able to enjoy advantages of the facility that StorHub offers”, added Mr. Lee.

The fourth StorHub facility along Old Klang Road welcomes all residential and commercial property tenants and landlords and is officially the first StorHub facility in Malaysia that is located within a residential building. With the addition of Old Klang Road, StorHub Malaysia now offers over 1,000 self storage units spanning over 85,000 sq. ft. of GFA to cater to the self storage needs of the neighbouring communities.

StorHub offers self storage solutions for customers to enhance space at home and in offices to enjoy clutter-free living with self storage space ranging from ten square feet to over 400 square feet, with storage fees starting from RM95.50 per month.

Fans of modified cars, electric vehicle enthusiasts and those shopping for
new cars can look forward to the International Modified (IAM) Kuala
Lumpur and Malaysia International Motor Expo (MIME) 2023 which will be
held from 27-29 October 2023 at the Malaysia International Trade &

the show promises a curated showcase of vehicles, products, innovations,
and latest development in automotive technology by automotive stake
holders, car/motorcycle dealers, and original equipment manufacturers
(OEM).

What makes IAM-MIME 2023 unique is that it incorporates three
automotive genres under one roof: Firstly, it is a showcase of new cars
legacy automakers and new marques. The second element is a showcase
dedicated to an Electric Vehicle (EV) Fest which will showcase a variety of
EVs that provide mobility with an approximate 400km of range on a single

charge but with a price range ranging from RM100,000 to RM500,000.

sports utility vehicle (SUV) and a wide range of models from Mazda, KIA
and Peugeot brought by Bermaz Auto Berhad. Also on display will be a

European sales, spare parts, service and repair centre. The show will also
include displays by JPM Museo, one of the largest private collectors of
hypercars and iconic cars in Malaysia, and Utama Motors renowned for its
supercar collection.

“Beyond the promotion of the automotive industry, MARii’s agenda is very
much aligned with Malaysia’s responsibility regarding energy transition and
decarbonisation. On this note, I’m very happy to note that the organizers of
the Malaysia International Motor Expo (MIME 2023) have focused on the
Electric Vehicle (EV) mega trend and allocated a central location for the
display of some of the leading EV brands in the world,”said Malaysia
Automotive Robotics And Iot Institute (MARii) Deputy Chief Executive
Officer Ts Nizmar Mohd Nazar who launched the show today. Also present
was Chairman of the Malaysia International Motor Expo (MIME) Yang Mulia
Sharifah Wani Jamalullail.

Meanwhile, MIME Founder Yamin Vong said one major attraction of the
show will be to provide as many visitors and potential buyers the
experience of test driving electric vehicles. The show will also be
conducting a digital polling for the “Peoples’ Choice Car of the Year” and
participants of this 10 question poll will also stand to win hourly prizes. The
“Peoples’ Choice Car of the Year” will be announced at a special Car of the
Year Awards to be held on 15 November 2023.
The third and most vibrant component of the show will be a grand

showcase of about 300 customized cars that will form the epicenter of the
International Automodified (IAM) display which has grown exponentially to
become Southeast Asia’s largest and longest running modified car show.
Regarded as Southeast Asia’s largest car tuning and lifestyle show as well
as competition, IAM has had the distinction of touring more than 38 cities
throughout Indonesia since 2001 and has since expanded to hosting shows
in Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand. The show attracts thousands of car
enthusiasts and aficionados with nearly 100 individual awards presented to
the best displayed vehicles in each category.

First held in Malaysia in 2011, IAM combined forces with MIME in 2022
where close to 104,000 people visited the inaugural three-day show held at
the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre. Last year’s showcase featured more
than 100 of Malaysia’s top grade modified vehicles with the numbers
expected to triple this year.

“The show has grown by leaps and bounds over the years. There is a huge
following and love for modified cars in the region especially in Malaysia and
this is extremely evident from the high quality of cars on display,” said IAM
Founder Reza Aliwarga.

“The interest to display cars has been phenomenal and there are almost
1,000 modified cars on the list we have to vet through before meticulously
selecting the final 300 for the show.”
This year’s regional IAM tour kicks off in Singapore from 21-22 October
before stopping in Kuala Lumpur,Malaysia on 27-29 October. The show will
then travel back to Jakarta, Indonesia on 2-3 December before the finale

8 August, Kuala Lumpur - The highly-anticipated Google Cloud Day 2023 organised by PointStar, a leader in cloud transformation and digital solutions, was held at Grand Hyatt Hotel today. The event showcased Google Cloud’s enterprise-grade AI and data solutions for driving business transformation and provided insights into use cases for enhanced productivity.

In collaboration with Google Cloud, the full-day event featured an array of engaging activities, including keynotes, breakout sessions, live solution showcases, and networking opportunities. The event also marked the launch of the Digital Acceleration for Learning and Industry Adoption (DALIA) - A Step-Up Productivity Programme, in partnership with the Malaysian Productivity Corporation (MPC), a government agency under the Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry (MITI).

Justin Lee, Chief Executive Officer of PointStar said, "We are thrilled to present Google Cloud Day 2023, an event that showcased innovation in AI and data solutions with a future-driven outlook on its practical applications for organisations of any kind. This event is not just about technology; it's about empowering businesses to drive transformation and embrace innovation to be future-ready and for unparalleled growth.”

Google Cloud Day 2023 was attended by more than 200 participants. The event emphasised how advanced data analytics, modern cloud-based applications, and artificial intelligence (AI) can be integrated into workflows to solve critical business challenges. Esteemed industry leaders, including Sarawak Digital Economy Corporation (SDEC), PIKOM, TNB, Logitech, Samsung, Kissflow, and JumpCloud participated in sessions discussing topics such as the transformative potential of no-code tools and the future of work.

Patrick Wee, Country Manager, Malaysia, Google Cloud, said, “The democratisation of software creation is gaining ground within organisations, and by 2024, more than 65% of applications will be developed using low- or no-code tools. In partnership with PointStar, Google Cloud is committed to making application creation accessible to users of all skill levels with tools like Duet AI for AppSheet, which can help organisations free up resources and expertise to be reallocated toward other high-impact tasks and projects.”

Google Cloud Day 2023 aligned seamlessly with MPC’s Malaysia Productivity Blueprint, which aims to build a future-ready workforce and drive digitalisation for enhanced productivity. PointStar collaborated with MPC to boost the ongoing DALIA programme, serving as the digital solutions consultant to facilitate the development of applications to address organisations’ workflow and productivity challenges using AppSheet, Google’s no-code development platform.

Zahid Ismail, Deputy Director General of MPC stated, “We extend our heartfelt appreciation to PointStar for their invaluable collaboration with us for the DALIA programme. This partnership exemplifies the significance of fostering strong ties between the private and public sectors, as it brings to light the immense value of knowledge exchange and shared expertise. Google Cloud Day 2023 is a great illustration of the transformative power of technology in fostering growth and productivity for our nation.”

Harnessing the advanced tools and ecosystems developed by Google Cloud and PointStar, MPC aims to enhance productivity in companies across various sectors. The DALIA programme anticipates more than 100 participating companies in 2023, laying the foundation for more impactful solutions-focused initiatives in the future. The programme is open to all SSM-registered companies in Malaysia.
